Abstract

Analysis of Vocal Learning Situation of Children at The Sound Of Music School Yogyakarta

Abstract

This research is undermined by the novelty that has occurred at the Institute of Music Course The Sound of Music School Yogyakarta which has just been in existence for 1 year. Facilities, teachers, syllabus, textbooks, and new students create an adaptation of learning atmosphere with unique dynamics. This study shows the application of syllabus and teaching materials created by the first teacher as well as the supervisor of the institute of music courses to be taught to students. The analysis of the learning situation at the institute focused on the vocal learning of children who are currently most in demand. The review of the preparation of the syllabus is based on the synthetic and analytical approaches presented by Wilkins dan Krahnke. The study uses qualitative research methods with field observation, the collection of primary data such as observation of learning situations observed directly in the classroom, in-depth interviews with teachers, and collection of secondary data in the form of syllabus and textbooks. The results of the research shows that the synthetic approach that teaches music knowledge accumulatively has been done by teachers with the support of textbooks such as introduction of notation, vocalization (warm up), sight singing, aural and song learning. Meanwhile, the analytical approach is done when students have completed textbooks and are trained to perform at special events. The teacher focuses only on the vocalization and song learning part. Some inconsistencies occurred in the curriculum material such as the introduction of notations directed to make musical works that do not contain the substance in the textbook and are not suitable to be taught to grade 1 students, errors in the writing of the notation symbols, and the exhibition of songs that have not been taught on the introductory notation material. Learning analytically also found that the vocalization material performed by the teacher was not sufficient in music theory and vocal technique to bring the song “Karena Ku Sanggup” from Agnes Monica, which was relatively difficult. This is a revision of the textbook and the preparation of the syllabus material for higher grades that has not been prepared until this research is completed.
